Besides the obvious maintenance advantage this feature offers by allowing you to replace one small, affordable reed plate section instead having to get an entire, 4-octave plate, the thickness of each of the plates is the perfect thickness to get the most tone, volume, and responsiveness out of the particular range of notes. Having one plate that offers the same thickness for holes 1 – 4 as it does 12 – 16 prevents the reeds from performing at their optimal level – JDR’s 4-section reed plate design solves that.
