About Bushman Harmonicas

Since 1821, the harmonica has been held back by missing notes and melodic walls, but our mission is to tear down those barriers.

We are relentlessly innovating to bridge the gap between your imagination and your performance by engineering harmonicas that solve 200-year-old musical problems.   We truly value your support as we strive to make every dream playable.  At Bushman, if you can Dream it, you can Play it.

Examples of the problem solving instruments we produce are our Blues Shifter – the most versatile, capable harmonica in the world; the Knittlinger – the easiest playing, fastest responding double reed harmonica of all time; the Dinky – the world’s smallest blues harmonica (yes, you can play in 2nd position on it); the John Lee – the best bending harmonica out-of-the-box on the planet; and the Roundhouse – the best combination of price/comfort/playability/durability of any harmonica ever made, making it one of the smartest harmonica buying decisions you can make!

We have an ever growing team of pros who play Bushman harmonicas.  We choose to sponsor players organically, from our customer list; so if  you like playing Bushman harmonicas, and you’re a touring musician who has a strong social media following, let us know – we may want to support you in your musical journey.

Bushman Harmonica FAQs

How do you get started playing the Harmonica?

Playing the harmonica can be an exciting and rewarding musical adventure.  At Bushman, we’re here to support you every step of the way.  To get started, order our Harmonica Instruction Kit that includes an excellent Bushman Roundhouse.  If you live in the continental USA, your kit will take 3 to 4 days to arrive; so while you’re waiting for it you can Click here to see how to begin playing.  You can get helpful tips by calling our Bushman Harmonica Hotline at 269-587-2770, and following our Bushman Harmonicas page on Facebook.

How do you clean your Bushman Harmonica?

To get started, use a harmonica screwdriver to remove the cover plate screws and the 6 or 8 reed plate screws. If you don’t have a small screwdriver you can order one from Bushman for $2.99.  When you take the reed plates off of the comb, pay attention to how they’re oriented so you can put them back on the same way later. Keep all your screws safe, in a small container.

Next, put the 5 parts – the 2 cover plates, 2 reed plates, and the comb – in a bowl of shower temperature water – by shower temperature I mean slightly hotter than warm.  Squirt a little Dawn dish soap in the water and slosh everything around so the soap is evenly distributed throughout the water.  Let the parts soak for 20 minutes.

After they’ve soaked, grab a soft toothbrush and gently brush the reed plates. Make sure you brush lengthwise as going side-to-side can pick up and bend the windsavers or reeds.  Give the comb and cover plates a quick scrub, too.  If you look down in the holes of the mouthpiece or comb you might see what looks like tiny bits of dried pancake batter.  All of that must be removed anyway you can.  If you can’t get down into the comb with a brush you might have to put the comb under fast, rushing water, to get it clean.

Finally, rinse the parts under warm water, pat them dry, and let them air dry overnight.

Due to the risk of damaging the windsavers and reeds, we recommend only cleaning your harmonica when you have sticking or hesitating notes, or some other performance issues.  If your harmonica still doesn’t play right after a good cleaning, you know it’s time to call us for a set of money-saving replacement reed plates.  Bushman offers more replacement parts than any other harmonica brand on the planet.
